Acne

Acne is perhaps the most common disease of adolescence, although it sometimes occurs in adulthood, and is characterized by inflammation of the sebaceous glands. Common acne, which is the type that affects most people, has the unique characteristic of comedones, open (blackheads) and closed (small whiteheads) that fill the hair follicle and are the mildest form of the disease.

Main Types of Acne:

In inflammatory can be created papules, small red pimples, and φλυκταινίδια, pimples with pus. Most intense and often painful inflammatory lesions are nodules and cysts, which may remain on the skin for several weeks.
In non-inflammatory acne observed only the comedones, open or closed as mentioned above, without progression in lesions of inflammatory acne .
The most common form is the "common acne" and is found in areas rich in sebaceous glands (especially face-back-shoulders-thorax). The acne subsides gradually in adult life and usually occurs between the ages of 14-17 years of age for girls and 16-19 for the boys, but without strict restriction on the time limits, in particular in women.

Why Is Acne Caused?

The exact causes are not known, although it is a multifactorial disease. The factors involved in its appearance are:
1.Family history (heredity)
2.Hormonal disorders
3.Stress
4.After skin irritation
5.Use of certain medications (e.g., androgens)
6.Use of oily cosmetics

4 are the factors involved in the pathophysiology of the disease:
  1. Overproduction of sebum by the skin’s glands, partly genetically determined, mainly due to the local action of androgens—and especially dihydrotestosterone after the enzymatic action of 5α-reductase.
  2. Propionobacterium acnes, which is found inside the pilosebaceous follicles and produces lipases that break down the fatty acids of sebum, and is considered an essential factor in the pathogenesis of acne.
  3. Inflammation, both from P. acnes and from the accumulation of sebum and the pressure on the follicular walls.
  4. Narrowing of the outlet of the pilosebaceous follicle due to a disorder of keratinization of the cells.

At our clinic we treat all forms of acne. Our goal is to treat it as quickly as possible so that we do not allow acne scars to form. Even then, we are able to restore the appearance and quality of the skin.

We achieve this with:

  • Topical preparations – oral medications
  • Peelings
  • Laser Fotona & ND Yag, without the use of medication
  • Laser Lumecca
  • Ultra Boost με Mesoject Toskani
  • Dermapen – Neopen Microneedling
