Nail disorders – Laser treatment for onychomycosis

Onychomycosis is an infection that occurs in the nails and is caused by fungi.

Fungi can attack any part of the nail, meaning they can be found in the nail bed, nail plate, and nail matrix, distorting its appearance.

Onychomycosis is more common in toenails and, if not treated in time, can greatly affect the patient's quality of life.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT
There are several treatments for onychomycosis, such as topical antifungals, oral medication, laser therapy, and surgical care. The best treatment is considered to be laser therapy (Fotona 4D, Deka Motus AY, Nd:YAG laser) in combination with topical antifungals applied to the affected area. Laser therapy is painless, the results are permanent, and typically 4–6 sessions are required.

  • No side effects
  • Well tolerated by patients
  • No recovery period required
  • Contributes to normal nail growth
