Stretch marks

Stretch marks are atrophic tissue that develops on the skin due to a sudden increase in tension exerted on it (e.g., pregnancy, puberty due to rapid height or weight gain), combined with the influence of hormones. They usually appear on the abdomen, chest, waist, buttocks, thighs, and upper arms. In the early stages, they appear as red or purple streaks, while in later stages, they acquire a whitish color.

The treatment of stretch marks aims at their gradual improvement by locally stimulating collagen and elastin production, so their appearance resembles that of normal skin.

At our clinic, we use Fractional Laser (SmartXide DOT CO2 Fractional Laser) and Dermapen for the treatment of stretch marks.

The Fractional Laser delivers light energy in thousands of smaller beams (fractional) that “scan” the skin. This results in the natural activation of fibroblasts and the production of new collagen and elastin in the deeper layers of the skin, while simultaneously rejuvenating the epidermis and evening out the distribution of melanin.

The Dermapen is the first and original microneedling system. During treatment, it uses a head with micro-needles, which create tiny punctures in the skin. This process activates the skin’s natural healing mechanism and stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.

Apart from activating the skin’s renewal process, when the Dermapen’s micro-needles penetrate vertically into the skin, they also create micro-channels that allow active substances to be absorbed more effectively into the skin.
