What is seborrheic dermatitis:

The seborrheic dermatitis is inflammation of the skin that appears as white plates on the scalp or inside the ear. Usually the lesion area is red. It may occur in the head of a baby.

What causes seborrheic dermatitis:

The disease caused by overproduction of sebum and irritation of the fungus malessezia. The disease is familial. The risk increases when there is stress, fatigue, greasy, use of alcoholic lotion, obesity, acne, rare hair washing. Also, the disease is associated with Parkinson's disease, patients with AIDS, or with people who in the past had stroke.

Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis:

Seborrhoeic dermatitis appears with white plates on the skin surface, oiliness in the area of lesion, skin flakes with the form of dandruff, itching, rash, hair loss. It founds primarily in oily areas of the skin, i.e. on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelids, lips, around the ears and trunk.

In babies appears as yellow and brown spots on the scalp of the head. The cradle cap (child form of the disease) appears to 3 years old and are not contagious. However, it can be itchy and leads to bleeding or mild infection.

Diagnosis of seborrheic dermatitis:

The diagnosis is made by clinical dermatological test and recognition of the symptoms and the clinical picture.

How is seborrheic dermatitis treated:

The seborrheic dermatitis treated using special shampoo against dry skin and dandruff. The hair should ideally be washed daily. Be sure to wash out very well the head after the application of the medicinal shampoo. When the disease occurs in the chest or face apply pharmaceutical lotion two times a day. The disease tends to be improved during the summer months.
